Obituary for Dorothy "Jane" Sanders

Dorothy "Jane" Sanders, age 94, a resident of Providence Place in Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018. Jane was born on August 8, 1923 in Aspers to the late John M. and Maude E. (Eppleman) Knox. She is the last member of her immediate family. Jane was married to the love of her life, Alfred C. "Jake" Sanders from September 7, 1943 until July 17, 1999 when he passed away.

Jane graduated from Arendtsville High School in 1941, moved to Baltimore, MD and worked for the Social Security Administration (SSA) for a number of years before setting-up house with Jake. In addition to working for the SSA, she also worked for the C.H. Musselman and M.E. Knouse companies and the Gettysburg Shoe Factory. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing cards (especially solitaire and pinochle), board games with family, scrapbooking, traveling and participating in community yard sales. She was an avid fan of the television soap opera "Days of Our Lives". Above all, she loved raising her family and being with them and their families whenever possible. She lived a full and happy life and was a blessing to her family and friends.

She is survived by three of her five children, Evelyn Sanders (companion Linwood Verdier) of Chambersburg, Philip Sanders (Deborah) of Orrtanna, and Diane Leiphart (Paul) of York. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda (Rod), Seth, Elena, and Michael. eight great-grandchildren, Lauren, Allison, Madison, Casey, Joseph, Lindsey, Cash and Mason. In addition to her parents and her husband, Jane is preceded in death by her sister, Muriel, brother, Red, daughter, Joan Marie and son, Thomas Alan.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., Bendersville. It was Jane's request that there will not be a viewing. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 17 at Evergreen Cemetery, 799 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, one make a donation in Jane's name to the charity of your choice.
